I thought you couldn’t compost MEAT??! Composting at any mid-large scale farm or facility (what we do) allows for the food waste to get very HOT, up to 160ºF! High compost temps allow for the breakdown of proteins, all while killing harmful pathogens and weed seeds.

Your backyard compost pile is unlikely to reach such thermophilic temperatures, which is why you shouldn’t compost meat, dairy, oil, and bones, at home.

What is not compostable with our service?

  • Plastic, metal, and glass

  • Fruit stickers

  • Plastic produce bags

  • Plastic or wax coated paper plates, cups, or cardboard.

  • Yard waste (just too bulky for our pickup service)

  • Unfortunately at this time we cannot accept “biodegradable” bags or “backyard compostable bags” due to USDA organic regulations with some of partner farms, and due to long break-down times.
