Source Compost’s 2024: Turning Waste Into Knowledge

Source Compost was founded in Fall of 2023, so in 2024, we knew we needed to get out into the community and educate. We are proud to have put on over 10 programs, (and counting!), in 2024. Please contact us to schedule a similar program for your community.

Each program is customized for the age group. For adults and teens, we focus on: why composting is important on a global and local scale, how the biology and chemistry of composting works, how to get started with a few different methods of composting, comparing and contrasting these methods, troubleshooting common problems, and finally, questions and discussion. This can be a hands-on workshop, or a powerpoint photos presentation in a library or corporate setting.

For elementary kids, we educate them on where our trash goes, why it’s important to recycle and compost, how food turns into soil through the power of decomposers such as earthworms and fungi, and how healthy soils in the garden provide nutrients for plant life. For groups of kids, we like to break down into rotating workshops after the short presentation. Workshops usually include: recycling/compost/trash sorting station, discover live worms station, and discover live mushrooms station. We also like to end an assembly or class with the worm dance!

Please contact us for rates if you are interested in hosting or attending one of these events for your community, municipality, library, school, or corporate office.
